Q&A with author Kim Adams

Can you tell us about your book series and your inspiration behind them?

The Billy Be Kind Children Series is a collection of short, rhyming stories with important lessons that help to encourage and promote the social and emotional development of children.

My three amazing children have always been the inspiration and the impetus behind my series. They often inspire the traits of my characters and influence the overall storyline.

Which books/writers do you view as your influences?

The writers that have influenced me the most are Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, and Langston Hughes. I’ve always admired their ability to change the way people see themselves and how they fit into the world.

What is your favorite children’s book and/or reading memory? Why is it your favorite?

As a child, I always gravitated toward rhyming stories because they were easier to remember and recite.

I will never forget my 4th grade English teacher’s humorous rendition of  Shel Silverstein’s Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout Would Not Take the Garbage Out. That poem not only sparked my curiosity but inspired my love for poetry and writing short stories.

What is the most exciting part of being a writer? What is the most challenging?

The most exciting part about writing is knowing that I have the power to teach, encourage, influence, and potentially change a child’s life.

Although the challenges are endless, keeping my vocabulary and writing style simple and concise for my age group is the most challenging aspect.

Are you currently working on a new book or book series?

Yes, I have three titles scheduled for release in 2022/ 2023:

Billy Be Kind: Big Emotions

Billy Be Kind: It’s Not My Fault

Billy Be Kind: Sharing
